The official Upper Deck website was updated! WoW Minis
The only new information that was put out was a picture of a new miniature on the Monsters team - the Boglord Elemental. The "Mini Gallery" section of the site might be pretty telling, as it has 24 miniature placeholders for each of the 3 teams, meaning the first set could consist of 72 miniatures! Of course, the 4 previously released miniatures are all captured in amazing detail by the rotating 360 degree images. Additionally, the official site put up a Dicussion forum dedicated to the WoW miniatures game. Be sure to spread the word about wowminifan.com! |

Anatomy of the Prototype Hodoon Card |

The pictures of the New York Toy Fair have a lot of information for folks with a keen eye. We blew up the Vindicator Hodoon card to show some of its details. We hear these cards were only mock-up, so it is safe to assume that the final product will look different, but the mechanics should be reasonably established.
The title of the card has a portrait box to the left with the overlaid Paladin class icon. In the center, there is the name of the Hero, Vindicator Hodoon, his Race and Class, Draenei Paladin, followed by his Spec information, Holy. To the immediate right, there is another statistic "6" that is most likely the "Honor Point" cost to put Hodoon into play. The upper text box seems to provide the Heroes attack statistic. Hodoon uses the Might of Menethil, an epic two handed mace from the classic era of the video game. The three icons to the right are most likely an hourglass icon to show the tick timing (3) until refresh of the ability, the targeting icon showing the distance away in hexes to which Vodoon may attack (1), and a sword icon to show that Hodoon does 4 damage on an attack, which is further designated (melee). The lower line is a little hard to make out, but we think it starts off with a Critical attack icon, followed by text that likely triggers that ability (perhaps double damage consistent with WoW online) which reads "Make a (die roll) 4 effective attack against the defender." The Critical attack and the basic attack are likely described in the basic ruleset, given that they are not explained in detail on this card. The lower text box describes Hodoon's ability "Devotion Aura," which reads "Other allies within (1 hex) gain (1 armor)." The lower text box also includes some flavor text similar to the WoW TCG, which reads "The Light is a terrific ally and a terrifying enemy." Note the Alliance watermark in the background. The three stat boxes along the bottom left all seem to be defensive in nature: Armor (4), Resist (2) and Health (8). Anything else you can make out about the cards? Our forums are still a little rough around the edges, but bear with us and discuss while we smooth them out. Enjoy! |

JayAdan of Game Table Online had the opportunity to check out the WoW Miniatures game at the New York Toy Fair 2008. He gives us the best hint at what the gameplay will be like:
"The Alliance Distribution booth had some samples of the upcoming WoW miniatures game. These are my observations.
The game is played on a hex grid (which you can see in the photos). The goal is the acquisition of victory points. The points you need are based on the Honor Point total of the force that you bring to the table. The larger, more powerful the force, the more points you need to win. You gain victory points by laying the smack down on your opponents (victory points are equal to their honor points) or by occupying specific locations on the board.
The game system is "tick" based. If you've ever played Exalted or Scion from White Wolf games then you have an idea of what I'm talking about. When you activate a character each of the actions that you might take have a time-cost (or tick) associated with it. So, if you activate on tick 1 and your action takes 4 ticks then you won't be able to activate that character again until tick 5. Any special ability cards that you use during your turn will tap. They remain tapped until tick 10, at which time everything resets.
It's possible to customize your characters using cards. I don't know anything about how this works. I assume that the addition of cards adds to the honor point total of the figure, but that's just a guess." In addition, JayAdan provides us with the most detailed pics of the game board, additional miniatures, and cards! Check them out... |

ICV2 reports Upper Deck is offering retailers who attend the Upper Deck presentation that will be held on Monday April 21st at the GAMA trade show a free World of Warcraft CMG promo figure. Because of anticipated demand Upper Deck is limiting the free miniatures to one per retail location. Retailers will get to examine the exceptional detail of the 40mm WoW miniatures and show them to potential customers a full six months before the release of the Upper Deck World of Warcraft CMG later this year. In addition to providing retailers attending the Upper Deck presentation at 4 p.m. on Monday a free WoW promo figure, Upper Deck will provide GAMA attendees with a sneak peek at a truly spectacular figure: the massive Onyxia, the broodmother of the black dragons of Azeroth. Meticulously designed in perfect scale with the standard 40mm minis of the WoW CMG, the ferocious figure of Onyxia has a wing span of two feet and measures over 26 inches from head to tail. |

A user at Board Game Geek posted some leaked prototype pictures of Ruby Gemsparkle (gnomish mage) and Vindicator Hodoon (draenei paladin). This pictures show off the scale of the figures much better than the offically released pictures.
Board Game Geek reports that various styles of play are available: - Skirmishes - Combat between parties containing one to five characters.
- Dungeon Exploration - Co-operative or competitive play in an automated dungeon.
- Onyxia Raid - Combat against Onyxia (the black dragon). This raid can be played solo or co-operatively against the Onyxia or one player can control Onyxia by fighting against the other players.
Check out the leaked photos! |
